The Cabin

Our Timber Framed Log Cabin offers a luxurious and quirky back to basics self- catering experience but with all mod cons as well. It has its own garden area and stunning views over the surrounding countryside to Glastonbury Tor.

It was shown on Episode one of Channel 4’s ‘Cabins in the Wild’ Series shown in May/June 2017 with Dick Strawbridge and Will Hardie.

It began it’s life in a smaller form in the 1990’s with the window end minus the sleeping loft being used as an office space for a local Timber Framing company to showcase the principles of timber framing. The frame is Douglas Fir and the cladding is Western Red Cedar.
In 2009 Edward needed a home as his tenanted farm had come to an end and the cabin was no longer needed as an office space .Edward bought the Cabin and had it delivered on 2 bale trailers as the roof had to be cut off to get it under low bridges on the route here. A crane lifted the roof back on in situ and it was all refitted perfectly. Edward then had the oak framed extension added with the sleeping lofts, kitchen, toilet and shower. It had a solid fuel kitchen range which heated the water.
We then built our house on the site whilst living in the Cabin. The house is a ‘big brother’ version of the Cabin and is inspired by the Cabins’ simplicity and creativity.
Once our house was ready we decided to trial the Cabin as a holiday let so it was renovated and modernised with central heating and a gas cooker and it has gone on to become extremely popular with all age-groups.

The kitchen area offers a gas cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, crockery and cutlery as well as dining table and chairs. There is the addition of an outside space under cover with a Gas BBQ and picnic table to allow for inside/outside living.

There is also a shower, toilet and sink on the ground floor.

Sleeping space is provided by 2 double and 1 single sleeping lofts which are accessible by step ladders. The space allows for sleeping but not walking about. This is therefore a provision for the able bodied only. However a double sofa bed on the ground floor will assist those less able.

Bedding, towels and toiletries are provided.

Due to its wood construction, this is a non-smoking space.

Let us know in advance if a cot or high chair is required.

As an additional facility a 6M Bell Tent is available during the summer months only with a double bed and 2 single mattresses. This would bring the total accommodation in this area up to 9 people.
